BelgaPress Academic
The data of Belgian newspapers in iCANDID is provided by BelgaPress.
Use of this data is subject to the terms of the BelgaPress Academic
platform. Please ensure that you read and comply with their terms when
using the data for your research: https://www.belga.press/terms/.
Due to the agreement between KU Leuven and BelgaPress, users of the iCANDID platform are allowed to:
• consult, export and use the data for research within KU Leuven research projects.
Users are NOT allowed to:
• share the original data outside of KU Leuven and the context of their research project
• publish the original data openly without restrictions
TikTok
To use data from the TikTok Research API, you must read and comply with their Terms of Service: https://www.tiktok.com/legal/page/global/terms-of-service-research-api/en.
According to TikTok’s Terms of Service, you must:
• submit drafts at least 7 days prior to publication, in order to ensure that no user private and personal data is disclosed.
Users are NOT allowed to:
• share the original data outside of the context of their research project
• publish the original data openly without restrictions
X/Twitter
iCANDID only displays content from public profiles. Data sourced from
X (formerly Twitter) is subject to that platform's terms of use: https://x.com/en/tos and X Developer Agreement and Policy: https://developer.x.com/en/developer-terms/agreement-and-policy.
Users are NOT allowed to:
- share the original data outside of the context of their research project
- publish the original data openly without restrictions
- derive additional data about an individual who uses X. E.g., look
up more information about an individual via Google and add it to the
exported X data.
- find out, link and share personal information about a person.
Making
associations between an X profile and an individual is only allowed
with the express permission of that person or if that association is
public data. See examples below:
- When politician x tweets something using the account @politicusX,
this is public data because it is clearly a statement by politician x.
Making that association is allowed because this is information that
someone would reasonably expect to be used for that purpose.
- When an ordinary citizen tweets something (regardless of whether
this is an anonymous profile or a clearly recognizable name such as
@JohnJohnson), it is not allowed to find out and share personal
information about that person.
The following restrictions, as taken verbatim from the X Developer
Agreement and Policy, are additionally highlighted here. You may NOT use
X content for the purpose of:
- conducting or providing surveillance or gathering intelligence,
including but not limited to investigating or tracking Twitter users or
Twitter Content;
- conducting or providing analysis or research for any unlawful or
discriminatory purpose, or in a manner that would be inconsistent with
Twitter users' reasonable expectations of privacy;
- monitoring sensitive events (including but not limited to protests, rallies, or community organizing meetings);
- targeting, segmenting, or profiling individuals based on sensitive
personal information, including their health (e.g., pregnancy),
negative financial status or condition, political affiliation or
beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, religious or philosophical affiliation
or beliefs, sex life or sexual orientation, trade union membership,
Twitter Content relating to any alleged or actual commission of a crime,
or any other sensitive categories of personal information prohibited by
law.
